Project Background

Trastra was founded in 2017 with the primary aim of creating a mobile application that offers effortless accessibility to cryptocurrency wallets and banking services for its users. The project's primary objective was to enable users to exchange various cryptocurrencies or fiat currencies directly within the app.

My Role: Solo designer — UX/UI, redesign, restyle.

Challenge

Flexible Startup Approach

Start with MVP and work with new requirements as they appear.

Level Up the Usability

Make the app intuitive and easy to use.

Developer Perspective

Work in close collaboration with developers and provide prompt support when necessary.

UX Research

I joined the Trastra project as a UX/UI designer in 2019. At that time, the Trastra application had already been released in its MVP state; however, the app design was created without a UX researcher or designer on the team. So, my primary responsibilities on the project were to analyze the existing app, do UX research, and redesign user flows to improve its functionality. One of my primary tasks was to enhance the exchange user flow. I was also tasked with upgrading the application's style by bringing more clarity and freshness to it while staying within its current state.

One of our central questions was: "Why is the exchange flow not successful in most sessions?"

Together, we embarked on a collaborative journey, utilizing a Data-Driven methodology and user feedback to find answers. Our analysis led us to a significant discovery:

Many users could not notice or identify the option to switch between crypto wallets while using the exchange flow. At a certain point, it became unclear that such an opportunity even existed, let alone the ability to choose a different wallet during the exchange process.

This issue profoundly impacted the app's overall user experience. The instant exchange of cryptocurrency in other crypto or euros (physical card) is a key function of our app, and its effectiveness was compromised.

User Flow & Wireframing

Based on the insights gathered from user experience (UX) research and Google Analytics analysis, I began developing a user flow from scratch. This was done to ensure clarity on every app function and to simplify each step of the user journey.

To enhance the User Flow Mapping process, I went ahead and created wireframes. I decided to develop high-fidelity prototypes, which helped me visualize all functions and features on the screen. It also enabled me to discuss them with the development and business analytics team and gather their valuable insights and feedback.

UI Design

I have created a UI Kit based on UX research which includes examples of all repeatable elements in the app. While designing it, I made sure to keep in mind any future additions of new features and ensured that the overall design of the app stays consistent.

The main challenge in the UI style was to create a clean and straightforward look, with a focus on crypto wallet functionality, to provide the client with a user interface that is both practical and goal-oriented.
